If you had asked me some 30+ years ago, when I first started in corporate life,
if there would still be a need so far in the future for resources and programs to support the development of more women leaders - I would have said no.
As difficult as it was to be a young business woman in the late 70s and early 80s, I never anticipated that women would continue to be uncomfortable
finding their place
in professional life and bumping up against the "glass ceiling". But we are. Perhaps it's because of the competing goals we set for ourselves:
to be a high-performing executive,
to be a great mom,
to be the good daughter,
to be the supportive wife.
Perhaps it's because we are still the "break through" generations in a business world where the DNA is slow to change. And so we still need a way to support and learn from each other.
During my career, I had the opportunity to live those competing goals, to do well on
some of them - and to learn a great deal from the experience. I worked for three companies and in each, I was the first or only woman executive. As a senior executive, I had the opportunity to mentor, usually informally, a number of wonderful women who wanted someone to provide candid feedback and pointers on how to reach the next step.
I am very proud of "my women" and how well
they have done in their careers and in their lives overall.
When I retired from corporate life, I founded a consultancy to focus on my "passion for products", strategic planning and product management in B2B companies.
I remain committed to finding a venue to continue mentoring women, and so I created - Working Woman's Wisdom.
Without corporate affiliation or oversight, my advice can be direct and, often, not politically correct.
Wisdom, a monthly newsletter, contains short, down-to-earth insights that will help you every day - from how you look to how you think.
A network of accomplished women come together in the Women Leaders Program, designed to bring the same direct advice to groups.
The Speakers Bureau is comprised of women who know how to be successful and are willing to share their experience and knowledge with others.
Contact me and let's talk about how my wisdom, and that of the wise women in this network, can help you and the women in your working world.
